The adoption process

Choosing a dog? - important questions for a successful adoption

Please note - Most of our dogs and all puppies under 6 months old will only be rehomed to families
where they will not be left at home for long hours during the day whilst the family is out at work and school,
and who have no young children under 5 years of age.

We do our best to match adopters' lifestyles with our dogs' needs.
For example: a young dog may be very lively and strong and could outlive an older person
but we sometimes have dogs who have seen a bit more of life and have come into our care through no fault of their own.
They are often very sensible, many have been well trained by their previous owners and now they have reached middle age would benefit greatly
from the love, attention and extra time spent on them which can be found in the home of a retired person.
Please contact us if you are looking for such a dog.

Posh

Meet Posh a very sweet, small, black greyhound whom we have been asked to rehome due to her current owner's ill-health.  She is very laid back and great with people, children and all other dogs but will chase cats.  Posh is very good off the lead and will come back when called, which is brilliant for a greyhound.  What a clever little girl she is!

Posh is used to being left for 2/3 hours and has lived in a home for 12 months so is housetrained and would just love someone to offer her their sofa to stretch out on.

If you think that you could offer Posh a caring new home and would like to visit her please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk.

Max

Max is a big cuddly, friendly, German Shepherd cross Collie boy who is urgently in need of a new home.  He is is approximately 4 years old and we have been asked to find him a home due to a change in his families' circumstances.  His current carer is away a lot  so he spends most of his days alone and lonely and he gets anxious being on his own

As you can see from his photos he is a vary handsome guy. He adores people and will bond very strongly with his new family.  His new home will ideally be an active one as Max is an energetic dog who loves going for hikes and long walks.

Max is keen to please and would benefit from some extra training, but all in all he is a really nice young dog.  He has been used to having his humans around most of the time so he is looking for a family where at least one member is at home during the day.  He will only be rehomed to families with older children solely due to his boisterous nature and larger than average size.

Can anyone look at his face and not fall in love with Max?

If you think that you could offer Max a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk.

Tyler
Tyler is about 5 years old and is a very handsome Blue Brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross.  We have been asked to find Tyler a loving new home through no fault of his own but due to his family's change of circumstances.  He is good with other dogs and sensible children of 7 years and up.  He walks well on the lead, has good recall when off the lead and loves playing with a ball.

Tyler will make a wonderful all round family dog.

If you think that you could offer Tyler a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk.

Lyra

Meet lovely Lyra, a cross breed who will be two in May. She is a lovely medium-large sized dog who loves to walk and play. She loves her food and even though she needs a bit more training she could be easily trained thanks to her adoration of all things biscuit, or anything edible for that matter!

Lyra is an intelligent dog and can open doors herself. She walks well on the lead, but is too strong for her current owner and is being rehomed through no fault of her own. She comes back if let off the lead to a whistle and loves a bit of rough and tumble. She loves dogs and other animals but isn't good with children and will not be rehomed to a family with children under 12 because of her young and boisterous nature.  However, she would be fine with teenagers. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

If you think that you could offer Lyra a caring new home and would like to visit her please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk.

Amy

Abbie

Amy
and Abbie (below) are litter sisters who are now ready to go their separate ways and would like to find new families to call their own.

Their trainer wanted to get rid of them as they didn't come up to scratch.  Luckily for the sisters he did contact a greyhound rescue before having them put to sleep (the usual outcome for many greyhounds who don't make the grade).  Because the greyhound rescue is struggling to find enough space for all the greys surplus to the requirements of the racing industry they have come into branch care until they find loving new homes.

They are gentle, small greyhounds with lovely black and white coats.  Both walk well on the lead and are fine with all other dogs they meet.

Unfortunately black dogs are often difficult for rescues to rehome for some unknown reason, but anyone meeting Amy or Abbie will fall in love with their gentle natures and satin like coats.

They have never lived in a house before but, with a little help from their favourite new people, scary stuff like washing machines and vacuum cleaners will soon be ignored and once they've mastered stairs they will have to be persuaded to let you have your bed to yourself.

Please note: Amy and Abbie both come with a warning, that once they've made a greyhound shaped place in your heart no other dog will do.

If you think that you could offer Amy or Abbie a caring new home and would like to visit one of them, please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Buster

Buster 2
is a 2 year old young man who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Buster is looking for a home that has large breed experience. Buster has not been socialised, walked much or given any sort of structure to his life so he has no manners and does not know how to behave around people or other dogs.  He is friendly with people but due to his size and lack of manners he will require time and effort to train him.  If you are prepared to put the time in we are sure you will get a wonderful companion in return.  Buster will only be rehomed with children over 12 years of age due to his size and lack of manners.

If you think that you could offer Buster a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Bella

Bella
is a 2 year old young lady who is looking for that special family.  She is a medium sized cross breed who had a bad start to life and is now looking to turn it around. Bella loves people and gets very attached to them.  She gets on with other dog and loves playing with her ball and will chase it for hours. Bella is a bright dog who knows basic commands and learns quickly, she will need plenty of exercise and will preferably be an only dog as she does not want to share her family's attention.

She will only be rehomed with children over 8 years age as she is a very lively dog who could easily knock a younger child over.

If you think that you could offer Bella a caring new home and would like to visit her please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Buster

Buster 1
is an 8 year old gentleman who is looking for that special family to call his own.  He is a medium sized cross breed dog who came to us to find a new home due to his owner's change of circumstances.  Buster is house trained good with people and other dogs and even though he is an older guy he still likes his walks but not too far.

If you think that you could offer Buster a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Jack

Jack is a 4 year old young man who is looking for that special family to call his own.  He is a small Jack Russell Terrier cross and although he is a little nervous when meeting something new he quickly comes around.  He loves to play with his tennis ball and go on long walks.

Jack says: "After my walk and play I like a bit of a fuss and then to settle down for a nap.  People say I walk well on my lead, I know basic commands and am clean around the house. But, I will not be rehomed to a family with small children due to me being nervous round strange new things."

If you think that you could offer Jack a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Daisy

Daisy is quite a shy 2 year old girl who is looking for that special family to call her own.  She is on the small side of medium-sized cross breed dog who is very timid when she first meets new people but with patience, extra training and socialisation should soon gain the confidence she needs.   Daisy is an active young dog who is looking for that special person who would like to make a difference to her life, and has the time and patience to bring out the best in her.

If you would like to meet the owner of those beautiful, expressive eyes with a view to adoption please
telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk.

Lucia

Lucia  is a happy, fun, sweet and, of course friendly, 9 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is ready to spend the rest of her life with her new family. Lucia has nothing but love and friendliness to spread around to everyone she meets!  Anyone would love her right away because Lucia loves everybody she meets and we know she'll love you too!

Lucia is looking for a new home through no fault of her own, she is still lively and likes to play.  Lucia currently lives with 2 other dogs with no problems, but she does prefer human company so would be happy as an only dog.

She does not like loud bangs and will attempt to hide if fireworks or the like are going off, but with time a little patience and the help of the Sounds Therapy CD, Lucia should find next bonfire season a mite less frightening.

She will only be rehomed with children over 8 years age as she is a very lively dog who could easily knock a younger child over.

If you think that you could offer Lucia a caring new home and would like to visit her please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Gail or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Ricky

Ricky is a husky cross , who is estimated to be about 18 months old.  He needs an active family home as he loves being out on walks and playing games.  He is good with people and other dogs but because of his very boisterous nature he will only be rehomed to families with children over 8 years of age, as he may knock younger ones over.

If Ricky could speak he would say " I am still a pup, with plenty of energy to burn and I'm looking for someone who can help me get all the exercise I'll need.  I can't wait to start training classes as I already know how to sit for treats and I really want to learn more!"

If you think that you could offer Ricky a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email

Mitch
Mitch is a waggy, playful, very energetic boy who is a 3 year old, neutered male cross breed.  He came to us to find a new home from RSPCA Bury and Oldham branch where he was surrendered by his previous owners due to a change in their circumstances.   He has lived with children of all ages but because he is quite strong on the lead he is looking for a family with older children.   Mitch enjoys lots of running and hiking to burn off all his energy and he loves to learn new things.  If you are ready to adopt an active young man and are interested in training, then Mitch is the guy for you.

But, all Mitch really needs is a caring family to call his own.

If you think that you could offer Mitch a caring new home and would like to visit him please telephone 07050 264 531 (ansaphone), leaving a message with your contact details for Joyce or send her an email not forgetting to include a contact telephone number to office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Hamish

Hamish is an 18 month old Springer Spaniel who is lively and full of fun.  We have been asked to find him a new home due to his owners' change of circumstances.   Hamish is looking for a forever home where there will be someone with him most days.  If you enjoy long walks on the hills, or in the woods or by the river then Hamish is the guy for you.

Hamish will make any family a wonderful, happy go lucky, friend for life.
